The easiest way to do this is to have regular maintenance check-ups. The air conditioning unit could have low refrigerant. A refrigerant is a chemical that cools the air. Having low refrigerant indicates that the system might have a leak or malfunction. Typically low refrigerant levels means there is a leak that needs to be located and repaired.
